Saadani national park is 1,100 sq km on the north coast and the only national park on the beach. It’s a good place where sunbathing is done. It’s roughly 100km northwest of Dar es Salaam. The vegetation on this mountain is tall grass savanna, scattered palm trees; short grass grazing lands, black cotton plains, Acacia zanzibarica with its long spines, which covers large areas of the park, mangrove forests, salt pans and bare saline areas, Wami river is the most important fresh water source besides numerous temporary rivers and dams. There are also forests of Zaraninge and Kwamsisi
Animals in this park include: giraffe, buffalo, warthog, waterbuck, reedbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest, red duiker, greater kudu, eland, antelope, yellow baboon and vervet monkey, lion , leopard, spotted hyena , black-backed jackal hippos, crocodiles, elephants ,Colobus monkeys , Warthogs , zebra , porcupines ,Bushbucks , Hippo and crocodile , green turtles breed , bats, Humpback whales and dolphins.
Bird species include: riverine birds like mangrove kingfisher, lesser flamingo, kingfishers, and fish eagles

When to go
Charter flight from Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam Mkwaja or Saadani airstrip
Dar es Salaam is at about 200 km away from Saadani village 4 hours’ drive via Chalinze. From the North you can reach Mkwaja Headquarters from Tanga crossing Pangani River with a ferry 75 km / 3 hours’ drive. From here it takes 35 km to Saadani village. Zanzibar is about 40 km away from the Park.
